Roberton, Hawick, Scottish Borders, Scotland, UK. 11th December 2021. The Duke of Buccleuch Foxhounds, a mounted gun pack, flushing foxes from cover to guns in the Hawick hills. The coming Wednesday, 15th December, was the deadline for submissions to the Scottish Government’s consultation on the Fox Control Bill. The aim is to license fox control methods in Scotland, with particular reference to the use of a full pack of hounds. An independent review on behalf of ScotGov led by Lord Bonomy stated that, a full pack of hounds remains an essential component of fox management in Scotland. The challenging and often remote terrain, combined with large blocks of commercial forestry, means that in many areas of Scotland a pack of hounds is fully utilised by land managers.
